June marks 40 years since the brutal death of Vincent Chin. The 27-year-old was beaten to death with a baseball bat by two men, who were fined $3,000 and received no jail time. His death sparked calls for justice and a national movement among Asian Americans. Author Min Jin Lee, a writer-in-residence at Amherst College, joins Amna Nawaz for more on his death and Asian American identity today. The tone of the country has been exacerbated by the tone of the nation's president, who constantly refers to the coronavirus as "Kung Flu" or the "Chinese virus." We decided to take a family hike through a trail in the woods about an hour from our house. We brought our 11 pound Maltipoo with us. Along the hike, we saw several other hikers with their dogs. Everything was fun and friendly. People were saying "Hello" and practicing social distancing by letting others pass when we crossed paths. After a long hike, we were headed back down the mountain to our car. A lady and her husband were coming up the trail as we were going down. We stepped off to the side to let them pass. The husband passed, but the lady just stood there. So we continued walking. Our 11 year old daughter was in front with our dog on the leash. The lady aggressively stepped in front of our daughter and blocked her path. She began telling our daughter that we were breaking the law . Disney is set to release "Moana" on November 23, 2016, but it wanted to cash in on Halloween costumes -- too hastily it seems. Source: Disneystore.com Disney released the Moana costume last weekend on its online store. The costume is that of Maui , a demigod in Polynesian mythology . In the Disney animated film, Maui is voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Although Disney has featured brown-skinned people in its films before (think “Pocahontas”), it has not released a costume in which 'brown skin' itself is depicted as part of the costume. The costume’s description reads, “Your little one will set off on adventures in this Maui Costume featuring the demigod’s signature tattoos, rope necklace and island-style skirt.
