Shohei Ohtani hits his first career World Series home run! | 倧谷翔平 γƒγ‚€γƒ©γ‚€γƒˆ Posted on October 25, 2022 As a kid who grew up within one mile of Wrigley Field, and played one-on-one baseball... and who grew up a San Francisco Giants (& Oakland Athletics) fan in the Bay Area, I don't really care who wins. I just want Shohei Ohtani to hit one out every game. And strike 'em out. Well, I guess "Go Dodgers!" and hoping Shohei has an MVP-winning World Series performance. After his home run in Game 1 of the 2025 World Series, Shohei Ohtani joins Hideki Matsui as the only Japanese-born players to hit home runs in a World Series game. Fuji Buffet Celebration for Veronica

Image
Congratulations again Ate on your BS Nursing degree! Of course, I'm very proud of you -- as I'm sure are your siblings, Papa, Mama and the extended clan. I still have to edit/post most of the photos from the Pinning Ceremony and the Commencement Ceremony. I ran across your graduation photos while organizing & backing up online to Amazon photos. As per our chat, if you join San Jose Buddhist Judo Club (after your RN and job), I'll really be impressed!   πŸ˜‰ Fuji Buffet. Concord, CA. December 11, 2024

68% Filipino registered voters identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party

Image
A majority of Asian adults who are registered voters think of themselves as Democrats or lean Democratic (62%) rather than as Republicans or Republican leaners (34%). - Pew Research Survey of Asian American adults was conducted July 5, 2022 to January 27, 2023. I am part of that 68% of registered Filipino voters who identifies as Democrat. 51% of Vietnamese registered voters identify with or lean to the Republican Party. In contrast, about two-thirds of Indian (68%), Filipino (68%), Korean (67%) and Chinese (56%) registered voters identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party. I wonder why there is no Japanese breakdown. 51% of Vietnamese registered voters identify with or lean to the Republican Party. Mentaiko Cream Spaghetti, my order

Image
La Casa Mia Signature Homemade Fresh Pasta Mentaiko Cream Spaghetti: Cod roe, Dashi, Heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, Shiso leaves, Seaweed, Tobiko cod roe. July 14, 2024. Santa Clara, CA. We each tasted each other's order. This was better than Chesca's Carbonara, but not as good as Nica's Salmon Shimeji Spaghetti. La Case Mia, Santa Clara. Tokyo Style Takoyaki was appetizing! πŸ˜‹

Image
La Casa Mia Highlight Dish The birthday girl chose the "Tokyo Style Takoyaki" for appetizers. It was delicious and my favorite part of lunch. July 14, 2024. Santa Clara, CA. Takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special molded pan. It is typically filled with minced or diced octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and green onion. Takoyaki was first popularized in Osaka, where a street vendor named Tomekichi Endo is credited with its invention in 1935. An Internet meme originating from the Philippines showcases a variation of the food in a viral video with the phrase, "Nakatikim ka na ba ng tig-dalawang pisong takoyaki?", meaning "Have you ever tried the "two-peso takoyaki"?". Even though the food showcased in the video does not contain any octopus, the uploader continues to describe it as such thus resulting into many variations of the meme. La Casa Mia Lunch Menu

Image
La Casa Mia is only open 11 AM to 1:30 PM on weekends July 14, 2024. Santa Clara, CA. The restaurant is open for a shorter duration on weekdays (opens at 11:30 AM, closes at 1:30 PM) so they have a "focused" menu. Almost all the patrons who dined with us at lunch were Asians. I was a little surprised because I thought it was an "Italian" restaurant. But it was Italian/Japanese fusion, owned by a Japanese-American family. Their sister restaurant, Orenchi, was right next door.  3548 Homestead Rd, Santa Clara, CA 95051, USA Join us & help build a Fil-Am online community. La Casa Mia, Santa Clara, Ca: Birthday Lunch

Image
The birthday girl chose 'La Casa Mia' so her ate (big sister) could easily make it. July 14, 2024. Santa Clara, CA. La Casa Mia, meaning "my home" in Italian, is a Japanese American family-owned restaurant located at 3548 Homestead Road, Santa Clara. Just like its sister restaurant Orenchi, meaning "my home" in Japanese, our restaurants aim to bring a nostalgic sense of home to those who miss the authentic tastes of Japan. Since La Casa Mia is a Japanese Italian fusion restaurant, our dishes replicate the delicious Japanese style of Italian food that is so rare to find outside Japan.  Chesca & Nica. Kimono Reunion: Lorina, Glenn & JF

Image
Lorina Dollaga-Hoelscher was in town I hadn't seen Lorina since maybe the year she got married with Todd in 1993 in St. Vincent's in Vallejo. She was in town to visit her mom (and siblings) and her mother-in-law. Luckily, she texted me this time for a get-together the previous day. We hooked up with her BFF Glenn and decided on Kimono Japanese Restaurant in Benicia since it was one of Lorina's favorites in the area. Lorina, Glenn and I all graduated from Hogan High School . We were also in Springstowne Jr. High School together. I think both Lorina and Glenn came in 8th grade, while I started in 7th grade. Also, Lorina was a neighbor when my family lived at our first house on Toni Ct., corner Sunrise Way. Lorina's family was two houses away on Sunrise Way. Here are the first two shots we took on my Samsung S23 Ultra. Join me and blog with Pinoybuilt. I joined Facebook in September 2007, so I have tons of photos I haven't posted yet. 80th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor

As we mark National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we honor the patriots who perished, commemorate the valor of all those who defended our nation, and recommit ourselves to carrying forth the ensuing peace and reconciliation that brought a better future for our world. pic.twitter.com/I12XoYnwCK — President Biden (@POTUS) December 7, 2021 #OTD every year, Pearl Harbor Survivors, veterans, and visitors from all over the world come together to honor and remember the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. A further 1,178 people were injured in the attack, which permanently sank two U.S. Navy battleships (the USS Arizona and the USS Utah) and destroyed 188 aircraft. This year, we mark 80 years since the attack. Each year, remembrance events are held at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, culminating in a commemoration ceremony on Dec. 7.
