Friendship Games 37 Roll Call: PASA Kaibigan Hosts at Cal State Fullerton

On 10/22/2022, Filipino student organizations gathered at Cal State Fullerton for the 37th annual Friendship Games. Here is the Roll Call by the host, PASA Kaibigan.

On 10/22/2022, I covered the 37th annual Friendship Games at Cal State Fullerton, hosted by CSUF's PASA Kaibigan. The video below is the host's own Roll Call, and it belongs with the rest of our Filipino American History Month coverage.

Roll Call opens the day. Every visiting organization performs a one-minute choreographed dance, set to a soundtrack the club makes itself, as its introduction to everyone else on the field. After that come the picnic Games, the SPUF chants and skits, and Final Rampage, where the top three schools in the Games compete again.

SPUF stands for Spirit, Pride, Unity and Friendship, and it is what the Friendship Games exist to celebrate. The school judged to show the most SPUF has been awarded an eight-foot-tall trophy. Which school were you with at Friendship Games 37?

Friend. The word sits inside the host's name, PASA Kaibigan, and friendship is the last word of SPUF. Kaibigan kita means "I am your friend."

The Roll Call

This is the Roll Call by PASA Kaibigan, the organization that hosts the Friendship Games every year.

A Day Built on SPUF

CSUF's PASA has hosted the Friendship Games since the mid-1980s. The event was created to bring PASA groups from different campuses together for picnic games, art, dance and culture, and it has grown into a gathering of Filipino student organizations from across California. By the 39th edition, on 10/18/2024, 32 organizations and more than 2,900 attendees were on the Fullerton campus.

The preparation is the part spectators miss. Clubs train for weeks, and each one has members who choreograph its Roll Call dance and write its chants. The Roll Call you just watched is the visible minute of a much longer effort.
