NCAA denies waiver for Utah's Sedrick Barefield Sedrick Barefield , a 6-foot-2 guard from Corona Centennial High (Corona, Calif.), transferred from the SMU basketball program and joined Utah in the spring semester. Utah had filed a waiver with the NCAA for Barefield to start play in the beginning of the season. But since Barefield played the first semester of his freshman year, he won't play until December. Per Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak's interview on ESPN 700 : "He’s going to be available around Christmastime and he’ll be ready to roll when we start conference play, but he won’t be able to start the season with us."
