But when the two teams that met in the final are a country that ruled the Philippines for 333 years and a country that erased its own Black and Indigenous people, the trophy is the least interesting thing on the field. On Sunday, July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Spain beat Argentina 1-0 to win the FIFA World Cup. For ninety-eight minutes, nobody scored. Then, thirty-nine seconds into the second half of extra time, substitute...

White Supremacy: Same Dog, Same Tricks

Time to Change the Training | Russell Ellis | TEDxSUNYGeneseo "One of the most revealing and honest TED talks I've seen." -- Ike Berenguer Thank you Ike for sharing on Facebook where I saw it. Russell Ellis was raised in the mountains of North Carolina where racism was “so casual it was culture”. Now he is a “reformed racist” who aims to teach other white people how to deconstruct their own racism. Bruce Lee: 'Under the sky, under the heavens, there is but one family.'

Image
Remembering Bruce Lee on the 50th Anniversary of his death Each year when July 20 comes around, I remember three things: Bruce Lee died in 1973; Man landed on the moon in 1969; It's Rudy Jandoc's birthday. I tell my kids my three heroes were born days apart in 1940: John Lennon, October 9; Bruce Lee, November 27; my father, December 2. The intersections: My dad took me to watch "Enter The Dragon" on the big screen. Per Wikipedia, the film was released August 19, 1973 in the USA. I'm guessing we watched after my sixth birthday. It was the first father-son outing (just my dad and me) that I remember. I was mesmerized while watching. I wanted to be Bruce Lee.  Before we moved to the USA, we had a dog named Ringo. Yes, The Beatles and John Lennon's drummer.  Bruce Lee Statue The 7-foot bronze sculpture of Bruce Lee was created by an unknown artist in Guangzhou, China. It was transported to Los Angeles, California after a five-year effort by Lee's daughter Sha...

The #coronation of King Charles III brings to light a history of royal #racism ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 "Nothing spells #colonialism" like English #Monarchy" πŸ‘‘

ABC News contributor Mike Muse breaks down the centuries of colonialism the royal family has contributed to, and how King Charles can usher in a time of modernization for the monarchy. 'The heart of colonialism — extracting wealth from the labouring many, corporate profiteering, and authoritarian state repression — would eventually bare itself at home as a corrupt and venal governing class enriched itself.' Karambit Blade Work With Doug Marcaida

Image
Guro Doug Marcaida demonstrates the uses of the karambit blade. The karambit is an exotic curved blade used in both Indonesian and Filipino martial arts. With "Asian Hate" just increasing (thanks Donald Trump), I highly recommend each person in the family having a karambit on hand for self defense. I had misplaced the karambit I bought from Walmart years ago. It had cost me $30 in 2017. I bought the Snake Eye black karambit off Amazon when I was in Los Angeles a few months ago since I was driving around at night all over LA. It only cost $14.99 and arrived the next day via Amazon Prime. With my recommendation, my nephew who attends UC Berkeley got the same Snake Eye karambit, but a blue one . It's totally legal, as Doug Marcaida mentions in the video below. Years ago, I was flagged by a security guard because the karambit was on my belt, hung by the belt clip. Today, I usually carry it in my pocket or backpack. But when I get out of the car at night, whether home or awa...

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) hit back at House Republicans seeking to oust her from a prominent committee on Feb. 2, adding that “representation matters” in the democratic process. We came to Congress to be a voice for families who are displaced in refugee camps and those seeking justice around the world. The Worst Asian Hate Attacks on Filipinos in American History

Image
Watsonville, California, was the scene to one of the worst Asian hate attacks on Filipinos in American history. For five days, from January 19 to 23, 1930, Filipinos fell victim to harassment, physical abuse, and theft by angry mobs of young white men who believed that the new migrants were stealing their jobs and women. The riots eventually led to the death of a Filipino farmer, Fermin Tobera. What ignited the attacks? Watch to find out more. Jan 19th 2023 marks the 93rd anniversary of the Watsonville Riots. Examining Asian American civil rights 40 years after Vincent Chin's murder. #StopAsianHate #StopAAPIHate #AAPI

June marks 40 years since the brutal death of Vincent Chin. The 27-year-old was beaten to death with a baseball bat by two men, who were fined $3,000 and received no jail time. His death sparked calls for justice and a national movement among Asian Americans. Author Min Jin Lee, a writer-in-residence at Amherst College, joins Amna Nawaz for more on his death and Asian American identity today. Vincent Chin was beaten to death by men motivated by anti-Asian hate 40 years ago today. The killers received no jail time—an injustice that helped spark the AAPI civil rights movement. Man teaches self-defense classes to older Asian Americans as hate crimes rise

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 10,000 incidents of physical violence or verbal harassment against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have been reported. Most of those incidents have taken place in public spaces such as city streets and businesses. That's led one man to help seniors in his community learn to defend themselves. Elaine Quijano reports.

Olympian Suni Lee Says She Was Pepper Sprayed During Racist Attack

I can't say "I'm surprised." This is America; what do you expect. My question is, "Did this happen in Alabama or Los Angeles?" That's why I keep telling my girls to practice judo so they don't forget what they've already learned.  If they throw someone on the pavement with Ippon Seoi Nage and the guy cracks his skull, it's all in self-defense and it's the other guy's damn fault!  Don't forget the sidekicks, knees and elbows.  Gotta teach these hillbillies some Asian culture. Watch: Imagine Here's a Facebook Memory from October 9, 2015: So I'm waiting in the lobby of Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo. A man sits across from me and says, "You have two cellphones." I nod my head. He adds, "They don't have much technology in India." Dude must think I'm Indian. I said, "Sure they do." He continues, "India is very filthy. Mexico is filthy too." I guess he's not sure what ethnicity I am. I try to shift the conversation since I know the guy will keep talking even if I ignore him. Me: Do you like baseball? Him: Yeah! Me: I'm from Chicago so I'm rooting for the Cubs. Him: In the ALDS? Me: N LDS Him: N is my least favorite letter in the alphabet. (This must be my lucky day). Me: Why is that? (Giving him the benefit of the doubt) Him: Isn't it obvious? There's a word that starts with N. Me: Night? Him: You know Jay Z ? He calls himself Jigga Man . He found a way. Me: (I ignore the guy, b...
