PinoyBuilt — Stories of Filipino America

By J.F.R. Perseveranda July 6. First night back in Chicago after years away—and what better way to spend it than playing mahjong with family in Algonquin. My cousin Bernadette’s place has a high-tech auto-shuffling table, so I assumed I was up against pros: my nieces Claudine and Alaina included. But in true balikbayan beginner’s luck… I won in under 5 minutes. 😂🀄 And yes—I’m very competitive. 😏 Chesca’s first night here, too. A perfect start. #MahjongNight #FilipinoFamily #BalikbayanFeels #FilAmStories #PinoyBuilt #MahjongQueen #FamilyTime #ChicagoFilAm #PinoyInChicago #AlgonquinIL #FilipinoCulture #ChescaInChicago #MahjongLife #FilipinoGames #1PointMahjong #BalikbayanChronicles #FilipinoTraditions #MahjongMasters #PinoyPride #FilAmVibes #PinoyBuiltStories Follow at https://www.youtube.com/@jfperseveranda?sub_confirmation=1

Memories from our Overlook house Thanks to Facebook for the memory. But I had restricted the YouTube subsequently after sharing it on FB. I just made my YouTube video public again. 2008 July2. Vallejo, CA. Their mommy shot the video. Since we had our first kid, Nica, I always encouraged her to shoot photos/videos while I was still at work. (We didn't have to pay for Costco photo processing anymore. LOL). Per the filename 20080702161804, it was 4:18 PM so I was still at work in Fairfield. I love how Jian leaves the Rockband session by running away when he sees the food his mommy had cooked, and says, " Ooh lumpia !" LOL! We never worried about Jian and Chesca eating -- only their Ate Nica.  When Nica was a small toddler, she had always shown natural musical gifts. Nica even made up her own songs. I got her first toy keyboard (a red one) when she was two years old I believe. I encouraged her to perform, and always had her sing karaoke at our parties. She ha...

Chess Anyone? I have not played against the Scandinavian much lately or ever. I usually see Black play the Ruy Lopez or the Sicilian Defense (which is my favorite) when I open with 1. e4. This opening is classified under code B01 in the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings. The Scandinavian Defense, described in the poem Scachs d'amor, is the oldest opening by Black recorded in modern chess. Considered to be the most directly challenging move available to Black after 1.e4, the general goal of the defense is to prevent White from controlling the center of the board with pawns, effectively forcing an open game, while allowing Black to build a strong pawn structure. - Wikipedia Game at JFPerseveranda vs Dreambook10 .
