Memorial Day Weekend Vacation in Cancun

When AJ and I spent a week+ in Cancun & Cozumel

Cancun, Mexico. AJ and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Cancun. I googled it, but in the same location now stands Hyatt Ziva Cancun, an All Inclusive Resort.

A receipt shows AJ and I went to Senor Frog's on May 21, then Chichen Itza on Friday May 22.

In the first photo is our concierge at Hyatt Regency. It's funny how I always had questions to ask our concierge. LOL. I have to commend her on her professionalism (in addition to her beauty). She politely declined my invitation for dinner and even just drinks. I tried.

My favorite conciege ever!

After taking the photo with our conciege, AJ and I took a bus through the jungle to Chichen Itza. It was at least a 2.5 hour ride since we stopped at several hotels to pick up hotel guests.

We got to Chichen Itza after 12 noon, I believe.

It was hot. Not Dubai HOTTT, but jungle hot. Here's a photo of me in front of the Temple of Kukulcan, or El Castillo. This is the main strucure at Chichen Itza.

It's beautiful -- until you get to the base to climb the steps and see how steep it is.

The steps are slippery smooth (due to all the climbing over the decades/centuries) and each step is only about six inches. You can see most people climbing up the 91 steps on all fours. I'm proud to say I jogged all the way up without stopping. I left AJ in the dust since he climbed on all fours.:D

All four sides of the temple have approximately 91 steps which, when added together and including the temple platform on top as the final "step", may produce a total of 365 steps (the steps on the south side of the temple are eroded). That number is equal to the number of days of the Haab' year and likely is significantly related to rituals.

Here's a photo of AJ and me atop the Temple of Kukulcan. Behind us is the Temple of Warriors.

I'll scan more Cancun/Cozumel pics at time allows.
