Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI dies at 95 πŸ™πŸ½

Former Pope Benedict XVI died on Saturday at age 95. Born Joseph Alois Ratzinger, the German Cardinal who succeeded Pope John Paul II served as pope for eight years before stepping down, becoming the first pope in 600 years to resign his office.

Benedict's election as pope occurred in the 2005 papal conclave that followed the death of Pope John Paul II. Benedict chose to be known by the title "pope emeritus" upon his resignation.
