The day I got married was a day I thought I was in heaven. After all, my ex-husband was the only man I ever knew since meeting him from a high-school dance. I was with him for 19 years and married with  him for 15 years. To divorce a husband that was not disloyal in the marriage was a decision that had ramifications of guilt in many forms. To keep the marriage, I looked for  solutions that  could save it; like separate counselling, counselling together,  spending more time together to learn each other’s hobbies, taking more vacations, taking care of myself for my best look in my best suit, etc. But none of that could save it. Like a fabric that was already torn, I was trying to mend what was not going to make the same weave. Trust can be broken in many ways other than infidelity, and so does the sense of security get taken away without being abused. The Philippine-American War started on February 4, 1899 and lasted until July 2, 1902 A s part of my daily morning routine, I check out Google News for the latest.  I then searched " Filipino-American ."  The first item that came up was  The Jim Crow Army in the Philippine-American War . Some African American soldiers of the conflict thought fighting against fellow people of color was unjust. I'm a stickler for dates and anniversaries.  I just wanted to note that the Philippine-American War started 121 years ago, ten years before my paternal grandfather would be born. I had read up on my Philippines history before I migrated to the USA as a 9-year old.  My first library was the bookcase at my grandmother's house (down the street from my parents') full of my uncles' & aunts' school textbooks.  I even "borrowed" two of them to bring with me to Chicago. I am a writer, and I have always been inclined to writing ever since I have learned grammar in school. For someone whose first language is English, it is not surprising to be a writer; but having published a book for children and to be asked the question in the U.S., "Did you write it in English or in your language?" surprises me. Most Filipino writers I know, write in English - and proficiently. Unless one had a further degree in Filipino language , then this is another unique story. Anyone who grew up in the Philippines and finished a degree through the country's educational system,  can totally relate to this blog.  The country, being so diverse in its culture has 8 major languages and over 170 dialects. Small archipelago as it is, the neighboring townspeople do not speak the same language as the other, nor their dialects/languages come similar as Portuguese would be to Spanish .
