A major tribute for a Bay Area Fil-Am icon moves a step closer to realization as the California State Legislature approves the renaming of a highway after late community leader Alice Bulos. ACR 165, Ting. Alice Peña Bulos Memorial Highway. This measure would designate a specified portion of State Route 35 that runs through the City of Daly City in the County of San Mateo as the Alice Peña Bulos Memorial Highway. Bulos attended UST in 1948, graduating with a bachelor and master’s degree in social and behavioral sciences. She was a sociology professor and head of the UST Sociology Department before resigning in 1977 to be an employment counselor in Sacramento, California. Bulos and her husband Dony founded the Filipino American Grassroots Movement, a campaign to involve Filipinos in the American political process.
