Happy Birthday, Mama Helen & Tess ❤️🎂 Today, August 16, is a day filled with both joy and bittersweet memories for our family. It’s the shared birthday of my beloved mother-in-law Mama Helen in the Philippines, and her youngest daughter, my late wife Tess . Fate has a funny way of working. Long before I even met Tess, I had already planned a week-long vacation for the week of August 16. Then, on May 16 of that same year, Tess came into my life. Lo and behold — it was a perfect match. That week, which I had set aside for rest and fun, would soon become one of the most meaningful times of my life, forever tied to celebrating two incredible women. This year, we remember them through a flashback photo from August 1999 in Chino Hills, California. It was taken right after we returned from a weekend in Las Vegas to celebrate their special day. Top Gun: Maverick: Must See Movie

Brought my baby girl to the first showing of the day of Top Gun: Maverick I wanted to bring the whole family, but Chesca was the only one available. We watched the original 'Top Gun' beforehand so she she knew the background and had more of an appreciation of Tom Cruise. Of course, it is one of my favorite films. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed watching the film more than my millennial daughter, but more importantly, we watched and spent time together. "To a father growing old, nothing is dearer than a daughter." The quote is from Euripedes ' play Helen (which coincidentally is my daughters' maternal grandmother's name). Helen is a drama by Euripides about Helen, first produced in 412 BC for the Dionysia in a trilogy that also contained Euripides' lost Andromeda. The play has much in common with Iphigenia in Tauris, one of the playwright's later works. E uripides c. 480 – c. 406 BC) was a tragedian of classical Athens. Along with Aeschylus and Sophocles, he is one of the three ancient Greek tragedians for whom a significant number of plays have survived. Some ancient scholars attributed 95 plays to him but, according to the Suda, it was 92 at most.
