Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo gives her inaugural speech in Quezon City - June 30, 2016 Leni Robredo , born Maria Leonor Santo Tomas Gerona, is a Filipino lawyer, social activist, and politician.  She became the 14th Vice President of the Philippines . Running under the Liberal Party , Robredo won the vice-presidency contest in the May 9, 2016 election, as confirmed and proclaimed by the official Congressional count of May 25–27, with 14,418,817 votes (35.11% of the votes), narrowly defeating Senator Bongbong Marcos by 263,473 votes amidst controversy. She is the second female to serve as Vice President in Philippine history.

Presidential Inauguration of Rodrigo Duterte

On May 30, 2016, the 16th Congress of the Philippines proclaimed Rodrigo Duterte as the President-elect of the Philippines after he topped the official count by the Congress of the Philippines on May 27, 2016, with 16,601,997 votes, 6.6 million more than his closest rival, Mar Roxas . At the age of 71, Duterte became the oldest person ever elected to the presidency, after former President Sergio Osmeña. Duterte is also the first local chief executive to get elected straight to the Office of the President, the second Cebuano to become president (after Osmeña), the third Cebuano-speaking president (after Osmeña and Garcia), the first Visayan from Mindanao and the fourth Visayan overall (after Osmeña, Roxas and Garcia). Paulina Vega of Colombia crowned her successor Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines at the end of the event. 80 contestants competed for the 2015 title.
